STEM Musems

This month we are exploring “The Centennial State,” the great state of Colorado!  This state is a STEM students dream – from archeology and biology to mining and space, Colorado has it all!
Not only does Colorado border seven states, it also has a natural landscape that ranges from, “flat grass-covered eastern plains—the High Plains of the Great Plains—through the rolling hilly Colorado Piedmont paralleling the Rocky Mountain front, to the high and numerous mountain ranges and plateaus in the western portion of the state that make up the southern Rocky Mountains and the Colorado Plateau. Within those areas the state rises from about 3,350 feet (1,020 meters) in elevation in the east to more than 14,000 feet (4,300 meters) in the Rockies.” Britannica
Not only can you travel to some of the highest peaks in the US, but you can also explore some of the highest homes carved into mountains.  The Gila Cliff Dwellings is a National Monument located in the Central Southwest section of New Mexico and are over 700 years old!   To learn more about this great state visit one of the STEM museums below!

Our STEM Activities

Our STEM experiments are slightly different from others.

At STEM with the Saints one can find activities that do not require the purchase of expensive scientific chemicals or equipment.  We do not ask you to: hand over your information; become a member or register for a monthly subscription.  If you wish to download our E-book - fantastic; if not - you will continue to find phenomenal experiments on this website. Our STEM with the Saints activities are based on regular, everyday items that can be found in your home.  We do not just provide the instructions for a STEM activity - we tell students why an activity works and where they can go for additional resources.  Science, Technology, Engineering and Math are not scary subjects that only a select few people can understand.  These fields of study surround our daily lives and STEM with the Saints was created to help children recognize the STEM around them while demonstrating that they are capable of learning complex ideas and concepts.  All they must do is ask questions and learn how to find the answers.

The goal of STEM with the Saints is perfectly captured in this quote from our founder.

"Stem with the Saints doesn't reinvent the wheel,

we show how it works."

Our volunteers are dedicated to the STEM fields.  We recognize that nurturing a genuine curiosity for the STEM fields can begin early in our lives and that is why our activities are designed for Pre-school, elementary and middle school students.  Additionally, STEM with the Saints links our experiments and activities to Individual Educational Plans to assist families educating children who fall on the Autism spectrum.

We organized access to the activities by incorporating drop down menus via the Main Menu above.  The activities are separated by Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.  Should you wish to conduct additional experiments based upon the season, you can access them via the STEM of the Season Tab.  Here we provide free access to experiments that change with the season.  Lastly, we are thrilled to announce that our book of experiments; STEM with the Saints: Charting a New Course will be available January 2025 for download.  This is an e-book that is only available via our website and it offers 52 experiments - that is one experiment per week for a year!

We hope you find this website, and the activities provided, helpful, encouraging, and inspiring.  We know that nothing is perfect, so please make sure to rate the experiments and offer input and constructive criticism.  We want to do our absolute best to offer budding STEM students a phenomenal product that compliments their ongoing educational goals.

Enjoy!

Cinema

STEM
at the Movies

For the month of May we are highlighting the movie:

Apollo 13

"Houston, we have a problem."  An iconic statement from a nearly disastrous event that occurred 55 years ago – in space!

Apollo 13 tells the story of the true historical events that occurred in April 1970 when the 7th crewed mission of the Apollo Space Program encountered an electrical failure that disabled the life support system on the craft.“The crew, supported by backup systems on the lunar module, instead looped around the Moon in a circumlunar trajectory and returned safely to Earth.”

The movie highlights the magnificent efforts of STEM experts not only on the craft but also on Earth. The movie is known not only for the actors’ portrayal of the astronauts, but also for its technical accuracy of the near insurmountable odds they faced in space.Truly a phenomenal tribute to bravery of the astronauts and the STEM professionals who worked under pressure to save the lives of four men.
